Core Aeration & Overseeding

What is core aeration?

Core aeration is a process that will leave your lawn beautiful and lush. The process involves perforating your lawn’s soil with tiny holes. These holes allow water, air, and other nutrients to penetrate the roots. This allows the root system to grow deeper and provide a dynamic and robust lawn. Core aeration is completed in spring and fall.

Why should I aerate my lawn?

Your lawn should be aerated if it gets a lot of traffic, is newly constructed, dries out quickly, or has a drainage problem. Most common lawn problems can be handled with aeration. Typically, one aeration per season (either spring or fall) is recommended for optimal lawn health. To fill in sparse areas, overseeding immediately following aeration is recommended.
What is overseeding?

Overseeding is when we broadcast seed over your lawn in order to improve the growth of your lawn.

When is the best time to overseed my lawn?

Spring and fall are the best times to overseed lawns. Soil and atmospheric temperatures are most favorable for optimum seed germination and growth. With adequate moisture, fertilizer, and sunlight, the new seedlings will be well established before very hot or very cool weather sets in.

Should I aerate my lawn before overseeding?

The most important step you can take before overseeding your lawn is aerating your soil. No matter what seed you use, the grass seed can’t germinate in compacted soil devoid of water, nutrients, and sufficient air exchange. That’s why it’s crucial to aerate your lawn before starting the overseeding process.
